Hosts Gabon crushed Cameroon 3-0 in the opening match of the 2013 edition of the Economic and Monetary Community of Central Africa (CEMAC) Cup on Monday (December 9) in Franceville.
Les Pantheres ‘B’ inspired by veteran Daniel Cousin went up early courtesy an own-goal by hard-pressed Cameroon defender Makon Loga before strikes from Edmond Mouele and Lionel Yakouya earned them the maximum points in the Group A encounter.
Equatorial Guinea complete Group A, whilst holders Congo, Chad and Central African Republic make up Group B for the eight edition of the regional championship.
The tournament organized by the Central African Football Federations’ Union (UNIFFAC) features only local-based footballers from members of the zonal union, and provides a platform to unearth talents as well.
Meanwhile, Gabon are using the tournament to gauge their preparations for next year’s Oange African Nations Championship (CHAN) in South Africa. Les Pantheres are in Group with Burundi, DR Congo and Mauritania.
