The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has dismissed allegations by Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, claiming threats to his life. Ganduje described Obi’s assertions as “unfortunate, misleading, and outright falsehood.”
In a statement issued in Abuja on Wednesday night, Ganduje labeled Obi’s accusations as “sheer mischief” and a “malicious lie” designed to garner public sympathy and play the victim.
He said the APC would ordinarily ignore such claims but chose to address them to prevent misinformation from spreading further.

Ganduje’s Response
Ganduje expressed concern over Obi’s allegations, which were posted on his verified X handle. He accused Obi of misrepresenting comments made by APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka during an interview on Arise TV on January 4, 2025.
“At no point did Morka threaten Obi or his family. By falsely claiming that Morka issued threats, Mr. Obi has incited his supporters to issue death threats against Morka and his family, which is both dangerous and unwarranted,” Ganduje stated.
Call for Responsibility
The APC Chairman criticized Obi for allegedly spreading falsehoods, emphasizing that public figures have a duty to ensure accuracy in their statements.
“Such misleading narratives not only undermine public trust but also pose a threat to democratic values,” Ganduje added.
He called on Obi to retract his statements and exercise caution in future public communications to avoid inciting unnecessary tension.
The APC reaffirmed its commitment to democratic principles and peaceful political engagement, urging all stakeholders to do the same.
