Ganduje urges Kano lawmakers to work with Governor Abba Yusuf

Abdulahi Ganduje, chairman of the All Progressives Congress, has urged those who were elected to the Kano House of Assembly under the APC banner to cooperate with the state’s governor, Abba Yusuf.

He stressed that all Kano residents, regardless of political affiliation, enjoy the benefits of democracy and should cooperate with the governor to bring them about.

According to Infostride News, the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) for governor of Kano in the 2023 election.

When 14 members of the Kano State House of Assembly paid Ganduje a courtesy visit at the party secretariat in Abuja on Monday, he told them they had a responsibility to help advance the state of Kano.

It’s been 25 years since some of you were together, yet when I look at most of you, I see myself,” he added. Some of you were elected to the assembly, served for seven years, then came back after being defeated. You and I have completed a cycle. It’s OK to refer to some of you as “veterans of democracy.” I wasn’t shocked to find out you came to offer your congratulations.

Ganduje likewise praised the legislators for their part in bringing democracy to Kano State.

He said, “The governor of the state is a member of a different political party, but I want you to realize that the whole purpose of politics is the improvement of the people. Please work with the state governor for the betterment of Kano State, regardless of your political affiliation.

That doesn’t mean you have to resign as State Assembly representatives. We would continue to cooperate in order to bring an APC administration to Kano State. Ultimately, what matters is that the people of Kano State get the benefits of democracy.

To paraphrase: “I want you to work peacefully with the government in Kano state, and I assure you that we will provide you with all encouragement so that we get more and more members of the State Assembly and also until we get a governor of our party.”
