Gareth Bale could be set for a surprise return to Tottenham after falling down the pecking order at Real Madrid, reports have said.
The 28-year-old left White Hart Lane for a then world record £86 million fee in 2013, and has since helped Madrid claim three Champions League crowns plus last season’s La Liga title.
But injury problems have set his career back though in Zinedine Zidane’s squad this season, with talk that he could be set to move on after mustering three goals in 10 appearances so far.
Manchester United have long been linked with the Welshman, but Mauricio Pochettino has hinted that Spurs would also be interested, saying “you never know what’s going to happen in football.”
Meanwhile, The Sun also claims that Tottenham are on the trail of PSV Eindhoven winger Steven Bergwijn. The 20-year-old is a target for West Ham, Bournemouth and Torino, who bid £9m for his services in the summer.
