On Tuesday, the Gombe State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal affirmed the March 18 gubernatorial election results, which saw APC candidate Governor Inuwa Yahaya elected.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate Mohammed Barde had their case to the tribunal chaired by Justice S.B. Belgore denied for lack of merit.
InfoStride News recalls that Inuwa was officially declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Unhappy with the results, the PDP candidate challenged the governor’s victory in court, claiming that vote-buying and other irregularities had undermined the legitimacy of the election.
The petitioners failed to provide evidence of the claimed election malpractices, so the panel ruled that the accusations were without merit.
Therefore, the court dismissed the petition.
The court also rejected a challenge to Governor Yahaya and his deputy, Manasseh Jatau’s election brought by the African Democratic Congress, ADC.
The ADC said that the credentials the deputy governor presented to INEC contained name inconsistencies, therefore they filed a complaint.
However, the court dismissed the petition since it involved a pre-election dispute.
