To combat the spread of transnational crime, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has proposed the creation of a transregional security task force.
On Tuesday, while in Osogbo for a courtesy call, he placed the call to the General Officer Commanding, GOC, 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major General Valentine Okoro.
According to Adeleke, the visit is crucial, as it presents an opportunity to fortify the security strategy on maintaining the existing peace and stability in Osun and throughout the area.

I propose creating a regional task force to investigate and combat transnational crime in the southwest and other regions under his command.
I assure the military team that Osun is the land of hospitality where no one is discriminated against based on tribe, ethnicity, or religion because of the symbiotic working relationship between the state government and the military, he added.
The governor commended Brigadier General Sulaimon, commander of the Engineering Construction Regiment at the Ede Army Barracks, for his efforts to ensure the safety of the state.
According to Adeleke, the mere knowledge that there are military barracks in Ede is enough to prevent thieves from considering the area.
General Okoro was in Osun as part of his efforts to become acquainted with the operating procedures in states under his Command, and he praised the governor for making the state a safe and secure place to live and conduct legitimate business.
He said that the existence of the Engineering Construction Command, Ede, which is staffed by a wide variety of Army engineers, specialists, and warriors, is a boon to the state of Osun’s security infrastructure.
He said he was grateful to the people and administration of Osun for maintaining peace and safety.
And because the Nigerian Army is focused on its citizens, Gen. Okoro said, “I appeal for more collaboration between the security agencies and the people not just to secure but to sustain the stable environment but to improve on it.”
