Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has firmly denied rumours of his alleged defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), reiterating his unwavering loyalty to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The rumours, which circulated widely on social media, included an electronic banner featuring the governor’s image, suggesting his defection to the APC.
In response, the governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, issued a statement on Friday, dismissing the reports as false and misleading.

Bere emphasised that Governor Mutfwang remains fully committed to the PDP and the people of Plateau State, who entrusted him with the mandate during the 2023 gubernatorial elections under the party’s banner.
He noted that the governor upholds the values of the PDP and has not considered switching allegiance.
“While this baseless rumour does not merit a formal response, it has become necessary to dispel any misconceptions that could mislead the public and preserve the integrity of the governor,” Bere said.
The statement further clarified that the governor recognises the PDP as the preferred political platform for the people of Plateau State and dismissed any suggestion of defection as completely unfounded.
Bere urged the public to disregard the rumours, which he attributed to political detractors attempting to tarnish the governor’s reputation for personal gain.
“This orchestrated falsehood, crafted by certain individuals and executed by mischief-makers, is aimed at creating division between the governor and the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), as well as his dedicated supporters in Plateau State,” the statement read.
Bere also assured the public that Governor Mutfwang had not authorised the creation or circulation of the purported flex banner and remains committed to serving the people of Plateau State under the PDP.
The governor called on his supporters and the general public to remain vigilant against such divisive tactics and stay focused on the collective goal of advancing Plateau State under the PDP’s leadership.
