Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has officially recognized the 27 members of the State House of Assembly led by Speaker Martin Amaewhule.
For over a year and five months, Fubara had declared the seats of the Amaewhule-led lawmakers vacant following their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers were known loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

Despite multiple legal battles and stakeholder interventions, the crisis remained unresolved until the Supreme Court, on Friday, reinstated the lawmakers.
Lawmakers Demand Budget Re-Presentation
During their first plenary session in Port Harcourt on Monday, the reinstated lawmakers issued a 48-hour ultimatum to Governor Fubara, demanding that he re-present the 2025 budget, which had been previously passed by three lawmakers loyal to him.
Amid speculation over whether the governor would comply with the ultimatum despite the Supreme Court ruling, the Fubara administration on Wednesday formally communicated with the Amaewhule-led Assembly, signaling recognition of the lawmakers and compliance with the court’s judgment.
The letter, while not confirming immediate plans to re-present the budget, marked a shift in the governor’s stance, aligning with the Supreme Court verdict.
