Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State on Sunday presided over the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected chairpersons for the 23 local government councils in the state.
The ceremony, held in Port Harcourt, was attended by Bauchi State Governor and Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum, Senator Bala Mohammed.
The swearing-in followed the local government elections held across the state on Saturday.

According to the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), the Action Peoples Party (APP) secured victories in 22 out of the 23 local government areas.
RSIEC’s Chief Election Officer, Justice Adolphus Enebeli, announced the results on Saturday, noting that the collation of results for Etche Local Government Area was still ongoing at the time.
Enebeli also stated that the results of the Etche LGA chairmanship race, along with the 319 councillorship positions across the state, would be declared after the conclusion of collation.
Following the completion of the process, RSIEC declared Uzordinma Nwafor of the Action Alliance (AA) as the winner of the Etche Local Government Area election.
