Caleb Mutfwang, the Governor of Plateau State, has raised concerns over the infiltration of Nigeria’s security agencies by individuals with dubious motives.
He alleged that some security operatives are colluding with criminals and compromising their colleagues, leading to lapses in security operations.
In a statement he signed, Governor Mutfwang emphasized the need for President Bola Tinubu to direct security agencies to exercise due diligence in their recruitment processes.

He stated, “There are many people in the security agencies who should not be there; they are agents of these criminals, and sometimes they even compromise their colleagues.
That is why you have a lot of ambushes when these security agencies are going on operations.”
Governor Mutfwang urged for a thorough review of the recruitment process to prevent the entry of undesirable elements into the security agencies.
He stressed the importance of identifying and removing such “bad eggs” to uphold professionalism and discipline within the security services.
Highlighting specific challenges, Mutfwang mentioned instances where security forces confiscated common tools like machetes from locals, indicating the need for greater scrutiny in security operations.
The governor’s remarks underscore the gravity of the situation and the imperative for stringent measures to ensure the integrity and effectiveness of Nigeria’s security apparatus.
