Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has confirmed plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), hinting at a possible defection to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking on Tuesday during a Town Square meeting of the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam federal constituency held at the QIC Central School, Ikot Akpankuk, headquarters of Ukanafun Local Government Area, the governor said the PDP no longer has the capacity to take him to his desired political destination.
“If you wanted to travel with Ibom Airline, and on the verge of taking off, it developed a fault that won’t enable it to fly, won’t you board the next available plane to take you to your destination?” Eno rhetorically asked, drawing cheers from the crowd.

InfoStride News recalls that there have been widespread speculations over Eno’s political future, with strong indications that he is set to join the APC, following a wave of defections from the PDP in recent months.
The latest high-profile defection was that of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, who officially joined the APC alongside many of his supporters, citing the need to align with the centre for the benefit of his people.
Governor Eno’s anticipated move is seen as a strategic alignment as political actors across the country begin early positioning for the 2027 elections.
