Gbenga Daniel, the former governor of Ogun State, has urged the current governor, Dapo Abiodun, to terminate his monthly pension.
In a letter headlined “Request to Suspend My Monthly Pension and Allowances,” former governor Daniel demanded that he be denied his monthly pension and allowances of N676,376.95.
That a sitting Senator who was formerly a State governor should not be entitled to the payment of pension and allowances from such a state was in accordance with his conscience, moral principle, and ethical code against multiple emoluments, he said.

On June 13 at the National Assembly, Daniel was inaugurated as the new Senator representing Ogun East.
Since he left office in 2011, the Senator said, he has not received any government assistance in the form of medical care, furnishings, transportation, or any other kind.
In a letter to Gov. Abiodun, the former Ogun State executive governor asked that his monthly pension and allowances be suspended, totaling 676,376.95 (gross) (Six Hundred and Seventy-Six Thousand, Three Hundred Seventy-Six Naira, Ninety-Five Kobo).
To avoid the appearance of impropriety, I respectfully urge that a serving Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria who hitherto was a former State Governor not be eligible to the payment of pension and allowances from such state.
“It will be noted that I was inaugurated as a member of the 10th National Assembly on Tuesday, June 13, 2023, together with other elected Senators and Members of the House of Representatives.
It’s important to note that since I handed over in 2011, I’ve received no medical, furniture, transportation, or other forms of government assistance. Many thanks in advance!”
