In a significant legal development, a High Court in Ado Ekiti has invalidated the appointment of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Caretaker Committee in Ekiti State.
The court has reinstated the duly elected State Working Committee led by Engr Alaba Agboola, known for its allegiance to former Governor Ayo Fayose.
The National Working Committee of the party had dissolved the Ekiti State executives in June, establishing a Caretaker Committee with Sadiq Obanoye as chairman.
Dissatisfied with this decision, Alaba Agboola filed a lawsuit (HAD/90/2023) against PDP’s Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagun, and two others.
In the recently delivered judgment, Justice O.I.O Ogunyemi declared the dissolution of the Ekiti State Executive Committee null and void.
The judge also ousted the Caretaker Committee appointed by the National Working Committee on June 8, 2023.
The court issued a perpetual injunction restraining Damagun, the PDP, and their agents from recognizing the members of the Ekiti State PDP Caretaker Committee, including Arch. Sadiq Obanoye.
Another injunction prevents Obanoye and other committee members from presenting themselves as the Ekiti State Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party and running the affairs of the state chapter.
