Uchenna Onyeizu, the Labour Party’s candidate in the Abia South Senate race on February 25, has filed his appeal at the Court of Appeal in Owerri, asking to be proclaimed the winner of the poll.
Onyeizu, the LP candidate, claimed that he won the election and defeated Senator Abaribe of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, in a case filed on July 13 at the Owerri Division of the Appellate Court.
Panel 1 of the National Assembly election petitions tribunal in Umuahia had previously dismissed his petition on technicalities rather than considering the merits of his argument, which he found disappointing.

After stating that “the decision of the Panel is totally unacceptable to me because I am so convinced that I defeated Senator Abaribe,” he urged his followers to remain calm pending the outcome of his appeal to the Supreme Court.
Infostride News reports that at one of the Panel’s sessions, Onyeizu raised a commotion by saying he lacked trust in the Panel and suggesting that the Panel was already compromised.
