Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has come out to rule out returning to the Eredivisie before retirement. He recently had his say while speaking to the press, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, despite enjoying and respecting his humble beginnings in the Eredivisie league many years ago, he doesn’t plan to end his career in the Netherlands.
Van Dijk added that he is very proud of how his football career has panned out thus far, and he looks forward to more successes with club and country.
His words, “I am very clear about that: I will not return to the Netherlands. I started here, and that was very important to me. I am very clear that I do not want to return to the Eredivisie. I am quite proud of my career so far and I think that finishing in the Eredivisie is not an option.”

Situated 2 miles (3 km) from Liverpool city centre, it was originally used by Everton before the club moved to Goodison Park after a dispute over rent with Anfield owner John Houlding. Left with an empty ground, Houlding founded Liverpool in 1892 and the club has played at Anfield ever since. The capacity of the stadium at the time was 20,000, although only 100 spectators attended Liverpool’s first match at Anfield.
