On Sunday, five candidates for governorship in Imo State from different political parties signed a peace deal in front of the Justice, Development, Peace and Caritas Commission, the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri, the National Voter’s Drive Coalition, and the Imo Advocacy Group.
During the election for governor of Imo on November 11, 2023, they made a commitment to ensuring that the state had a credible election that was free from violence.
According to InfoStride News, candidates from five different political parties, including Senator Athan Achonu of the Labour Party, Senator Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Okere John Jude of the Accord Party, Maj. Gen. Lincoln Ogunewe (retd) of the Action Alliance, and Sir Anthony Ejiogu of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, have declared their intention to run for office in the upcoming election.

Hope Uzodinma, who is currently serving as governor and is a member of the All Progressives Alliance, was not present at the signing event.
The signing of the peace accord, which took place at the Assumpta Cathedral in Owerri, the capital of Imo State, is intended to provide a platform for all of the gubernatorial candidates to share their manifestos, hopes, and aspirations with millions of Imolites who are interested in hearing from the candidates.
