Impeached Deputy Governor of Edo State, Mr. Philip Shaibu, announced on Tuesday his intention to challenge the emergence of Asue Ighodalo as the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for the upcoming state election to the highest judicial level.
This follows a Federal High Court ruling in Abuja on Monday, which dismissed Shaibu’s suit seeking to nullify the February 22 governorship primary that produced Ighodalo as the PDP candidate.
Justice James Omotosho ruled that Shaibu lacked the legal standing to challenge the primary’s outcome because he did not fully participate in the exercise and was not present at the venue on the day it was held.

Speaking to newsmen in Abuja, Shaibu expressed his determination to continue contesting Ighodalo’s candidacy, asserting that he rightfully won the primary with the support of authentic delegates.
“I won the election with the authentic delegates. I am sure and confident that the court will do the right thing,” Shaibu stated.
“Regarding the Abuja High Court ruling, my lawyers are reviewing it, and by the grace of God, I am confident that justice will be served.
I believe in the judiciary and trust that it will deliver justice in the matter between Ighodalo and me, and also in the issue of my impeachment.”
Shaibu’s remarks reflect his unwavering belief in the judiciary’s ability to address his grievances and deliver a fair verdict.
