The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the office of the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State have refuted claims suggesting that some political parties were blocked from accessing and inspecting the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) devices and other materials used in recent elections.
Dr. Anugbum Onuoha, the Resident Electoral Commissioner for Edo State, responded to the allegations in a statement, describing them as baseless, misleading, and entirely false.
He reaffirmed INEC’s commitment to transparency, fairness, and integrity in all electoral processes under his leadership.

“The inspection of election materials is a fundamental right of all parties involved in election petitions, and it is a process that we are mandated by law to facilitate,” Onuoha said.
“At no time have I or any official in my office obstructed or denied any political party or their representatives access to inspect the materials used in the last elections.”
He emphasized that INEC is fully aware of the legal implications of obstructing the inspection process and remains dedicated to supporting lawful procedures that enable parties to seek redress in court.
Onuoha also announced that the inspection of election materials, including the BVAS devices, has been scheduled for October 9, 2024, at 10 a.m. at the INEC headquarters in Edo State.
He invited all political parties and their representatives to participate in the exercise, in accordance with legal procedures, to ensure transparency and adherence to the rule of law.
He urged the public to disregard the baseless accusations, stating that any political party or candidate wishing to inspect the materials has always been and will continue to be granted access, provided they follow the proper procedures as outlined by the Election Tribunal.
“It is unfortunate that these baseless accusations have been circulated without any evidence or proper engagement with my office,” Onuoha added.
“As a Commission, our loyalty remains to the Nigerian people, the Constitution, and the rule of law.”
He encouraged stakeholders to engage with his office through appropriate legal channels and assured them of full cooperation.
