The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that special telephone hotlines will be provided for media practitioners covering the November 16 off-cycle governorship election in Ondo State.
These hotlines will enable journalists to verify unclear issues before publishing reports.
Amosa Lamidi, INEC’s Head of Electoral Operations, disclosed this during a workshop organized for media executives in Akure, the state capital.

Lamidi, represented by Mr. Tope Onojobi, said the hotlines would be made available before election day to ensure smooth communication.
He also revealed that INEC would establish a situation room to receive calls and handle inquiries from journalists during the election, ensuring prompt access to verified information.
The media executives were urged to cooperate with INEC to promote accurate reporting and prevent the spread of false information that could incite political violence.
Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, emphasized the importance of accountability among politicians, stakeholders, and the Commission itself.
Speaking through the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in Ondo State, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Babalola, Olumekun pledged that INEC would provide timely and reliable updates to journalists throughout the electoral process.
“We must work together to overcome challenges such as voter apathy, misinformation, and logistical issues hindering the collection of PVCs,” Olumekun said.
“With your collaboration, we can ensure that every eligible voter is prepared to make their voice heard on Election Day.”
