The Inter Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure the conduct of free, fair, credible, transparent, and inclusive elections that meet international standards.
Speaking at INEC’s first quarterly consultative meeting in Abuja on Wednesday, IPAC National Chairman, Yusuf Mamman Dantalle, emphasized the importance of credible elections for sustainable democracy and national development.
The insisted that INEC must deliver in the upcoming 2025 general elections, particularly with off-cycle elections in Anambra State.

Call for Early Preparations
Dantalle advised INEC to begin preparations for the 2027 general elections without delay.
The highlighted the need to implement the Election Project Plan (EPP), Strategic Programme of Action (SPA), and the 2022–2026 Strategic Plan and Strategic Plan Implementation Programme (SPIP) to meet the expectations of Nigerians.
“To whom much is given, much is expected. INEC must ensure transparent elections that will produce visionary leaders capable of transforming the nation,” Dantalle said.
He urged the Commission to rebuild trust in the electoral process, emphasizing the need to address the issue of low voter turnout, which he described as a “worrisome and sad commentary on Nigeria’s democratic process.”
Stakeholders’ Role in Electoral Success
IPAC called on stakeholders to support INEC in fulfilling its statutory duties to consolidate and strengthen constitutional governance.
The Council also urged the National Assembly to expedite action on the ongoing Constitution and Electoral Act amendments and ensure the timely passage of the 2025 appropriation bill.
Citizens’ Civic Responsibility
IPAC appealed to Nigerians to hold elected officials accountable for their performance in office, stating that their actions would determine their fate in future elections.
“Expectations are high. Governments at all levels must implement people-focused programmes to alleviate suffering and foster economic growth, political stability, social justice, religious harmony, and national unity,” the Council stated.
The Council reiterated the importance of collaboration among all stakeholders to uphold electoral integrity, safeguard the sanctity of the ballot box, and ensure the people’s mandate is respected.
