The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has condemned the impeachment proceedings initiated against Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, by the Rivers State House of Assembly, calling for the immediate removal of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.
The IYC President, Alaye Theophilus, made the demand during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Thursday, hours after the state lawmakers commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, Ngozi Odu.
The council described the move by the House of Assembly as an action that runs contrary to the wishes of the people of Rivers State, alleging that it was politically motivated.

Theophilus accused the FCT Minister of instigating unrest in the oil-rich state, urging President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to sack Wike from his ministerial position.
“Recent events in Rivers State have revealed the true enemies of the state. We therefore call for the immediate removal of the FCT Minister, Barrister Nyesom Wike,” the group said, describing him as “not a true democrat but an enemy of democracy and good governance.”
The Ijaw group also declared its support for Governor Fubara’s re-election bid, as well as President Tinubu’s second-term ambition.
“The IYC, alongside the entire Ijaw ethnic nationality, stands firmly behind the re-election bids of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in 2027 and Governor Siminalayi Fubara for his second term in Rivers State,” Theophilus stated.
InfoStride News recalls that the Rivers State House of Assembly on Thursday formally commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara and his deputy, both members of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The lawmakers accused the governor and his deputy of gross misconduct, with the Speaker of the House, Martins Amaewhule, disclosing that the notice of allegations would be served on the governor within seven days.
