Stakeholders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State have commenced strategic efforts to bolster unity within the party in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
This development came to light following a special meeting held by former councillors and representatives from all eleven wards in Birnin Kudu Local Government Area.
The meeting focused on addressing internal challenges and fortifying the party’s structure at both local and ward levels.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ado Nagoda, a former councillor from Surko Ward, said the gathering was organized by the Association of Former Councillors of the PDP, Birnin Kudu LGA.
He emphasized that the primary aim was to promote unity and prevent factionalism within the party.
“All former councillors, ward representatives, and party officials attended the meeting. We found it necessary to come together at this time to prevent the division of the party and strengthen it from the grassroots,” Nagoda stated.
He assured party members that despite recent defections, the PDP structure in the state remains intact and resilient. “There have been attempts by some individuals to create factions for their personal ambitions, but the party is focused and united,” he added.
Nagoda condemned activities by some members which, he said, threaten the party’s internal cohesion. “Some members, lacking true democratic values, are moving across wards trying to lure supporters into personal camps. This is unacceptable,” he noted.
He called on party members to remain loyal and committed to the core principles of the PDP, rooted in democracy, quality leadership, and good governance — ideals championed by former Governor Sule Lamido.
The stakeholders resolved to continue engagements aimed at reinforcing the PDP’s grassroots support and ensuring the party is well-positioned for victory in 2027.
