The Deputy Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Jigawa State, Umar Danjani, has expressed strong confidence that the party will unseat the incumbent governor, Mallam Umar Namadi Danmodi, in the 2027 governorship election.
Danjani made the declaration in a post on his official Facebook page on Sunday, assuring supporters that the PDP is determined to make political history in the state.
“By the will of Allah, we are on our way to making history in Jigawa in 2027. We will defeat Governor Danmodi in the upcoming election, God willing,” he wrote.

The PDP chieftain likened the party’s anticipated victory in Jigawa to previous political upsets in other states. He cited the 2019 triumph of Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa, who defeated then-Governor Jibrilla Bindow of the All Progressives Congress (APC), as well as Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory over APC’s Gboyega Oyetola in Osun State, despite the APC controlling power at the federal level at the time.
Danjani also recalled Bala Mohammed’s win against M.A. Abubakar in Bauchi State and Seyi Makinde’s victory in Oyo State, stressing that federal influence has never prevented the will of the people from prevailing.
He further pointed to the 2003 election in Kano State, where Ibrahim Shekarau of the defunct ANPP defeated Rabiu Kwankwaso of the PDP, despite the PDP ruling at the centre.
“Just like how Gboyega Oyetola of the APC was defeated and Ademola Adeleke of the PDP became governor in 2022, even though the president was from the APC. Also, in 2023, Abba Gida Gida of the NNPP defeated the APC in Kano, despite the party being in power at the federal level,” Danjani stated.
He concluded his message with a prayer, seeking Allah’s guidance and success for the PDP in the forthcoming election.
