The Kaduna State chapter of the New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP, has suspended its Chairman, Muhammad Lawal Sultan, for six months over alleged acts of gross misconduct.
The suspension was announced in a statement issued on Monday by the party’s Secretary, Dr. Joshua Madaki, following a meeting of the State Working Committee (SWC).
According to the statement, the decision was taken after the SWC reviewed Sultan’s leadership conduct and found him guilty of actions that violated the party’s constitution.

“The suspension is based on relevant provisions of the NNPP constitution bordering on gross acts of misconduct that violated its provisions,” the statement read.
The party announced that Hon. Jumare Tanimu Magaji has been appointed to serve as Acting Chairman pending the expiration of the suspension period.
Magaji, a seasoned politician, previously served as a councillor (1999–2002) under the All Peoples Party (APP), a member of the Kaduna State House of Assembly (2007–2009) under the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), and had contested for the House of Representatives three times. He also served as an adviser to the Lere Local Government Chairman in 2012 and was, until his new appointment, the State Treasurer of the NNPP.
Describing him as “a man of principle and proven integrity,” the party expressed confidence that Magaji would “unify and defend the NNPP’s interests in the state and beyond.”
The SWC also disclosed that it has officially notified relevant stakeholders — including the NNPP National Secretariat, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) — of the leadership change.
Dr. Madaki cautioned Sultan to desist from parading himself as the NNPP Chairman in Kaduna State during the suspension period, warning that anyone who engages in party dealings with him “does so at his own risk.”
