According to Baba Dantiye, the Kano State commissioner for information, most residents of Kano express satisfaction with the recent decision to reinstate Sanusi Lamido Sanusi as the 16th Emir of Kano, as per a statement released to journalists on Monday.
Contrary to reports in some sections of the media alleging violent protests following the abrogation of the four emirates and the reinstatement of Muhammadu Sunusi II as the Emir of Kano, Dantiye asserted that Kano has remained peaceful.

Dantiye clarified that while isolated incidents occurred in a few areas involving small groups of individuals and hired miscreants, the majority of Kano’s citizens have demonstrated restraint and understanding of the government’s actions.
He emphasized that the decision to reinstate the Emir was made after careful consideration of the state’s best interests and has been welcomed by a significant portion of the populace, who recognize the long-term benefits of a unified emirate structure.
However, Dantiye highlighted attempts by certain political actors to exploit the situation for personal gain, using the media to spread false narratives and incite unrest. He urged the public to disregard sensationalized media reports and support the government’s efforts to maintain peace and stability.
Additionally, he called on the media to practice responsible journalism and verify facts before publishing reports that could potentially escalate tensions unnecessarily.
