Deputy Governor of Kano State, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has formally received a group of defectors from the All Progressives Congress (APC) into the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), describing the development as a major boost to the party’s strength and unity across the state.
The defectors, led by Malam Bala Ladani Gwarzo, declared their defection on Sunday during a courtesy visit to the Deputy Governor’s office.
In a statement issued by the Deputy Governor’s spokesperson, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the new members explained that their decision was motivated by the remarkable achievements of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration. According to the statement, the defectors were drawn from 10 wards in Gwarzo Local Government Area and neighbouring communities.

Speaking on behalf of the group, Malam Bala Ladani said their move was driven by Governor Yusuf’s people-centred leadership style
He pledged their loyalty to the NNPP and assured the Deputy Governor of their commitment to working towards the party’s success at all levels.
Addressing the new members, Gwarzo encouraged them to remain steadfast and committed to the ideals of the NNPP, stressing that their contributions would further strengthen the party’s grassroots structure
He urged them to regard their defection not merely as a political shift, but as a collective effort to bring positive change to the people of Kano State.
Also speaking, the NNPP leader in Gwarzo Local Government, Alhaji Abdulkadir Getso, noted that more defections were expected in the coming weeks
He disclosed that several prominent figures were already in talks with stakeholders to cross over to the NNPP.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Gwarzo Local Government, Dr. Mani Tsoho, assured the new members of full integration and equal treatment within the party
He commended stakeholders for their tireless efforts in attracting new supporters and expressed confidence that the NNPP would continue to record resounding victories in future elections.
