In what appears to be a veiled rebuttal to recent comments by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Kano State Government has responded to his advocacy for a one-party system in Nigeria with a subtle jab posted on social media.
Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director of Press to the Kano State Government, posted a pointed message on his official Facebook page, quoting Ganduje’s controversial remark while indirectly challenging his stance and record.
“China runs a one-party system & it works for them ~ Ganduje.

China also executes corrupt politicians & it works for them very well…. ~ Author unknown,” the post read.
Though Ganduje was not directly named beyond the quote, political observers have interpreted the post as a sharp critique of the APC Chairman’s comments and a reminder of his own controversial past.
Ganduje, who served as Kano State Governor from 2015 to 2023, recently suggested that Nigeria could benefit from a one-party system, likening it to China’s governance model. However, critics were quick to recall his entanglement in a 2018 bribery scandal, where videos surfaced allegedly showing him receiving dollar bribes from contractors—an issue that stirred public outrage and legal scrutiny.
Reactions to the post have been mixed. On the same Facebook thread, a user, Mubarak Aminu Hamisu, remarked, “Kwankwaso and Ganduje are two sides of the same coin when it comes to corruption,” referencing the former governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
Another user, Sadeeq Mahmud Abdurrahman, commented on alleged political double standards: “In Nigeria, we have hidden monsters who secretly collect two billion naira monthly for what we don’t know.”
This follows claims by former Kano SSG, Abdullahi Baffa Bichi, that he was removed for opposing a N2 billion monthly payment allegedly approved for former Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso—an accusation that further fuels the rivalry between Kano’s current leadership and its political predecessors.
The exchange underscores growing tensions in Kano politics amid broader national debates on governance, accountability, and democratic ideals.
