Since Mukthar Umar Yarima of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was found to have forged his primary school certificate, the National and State House of Assemblies Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Kano on Thursday declared Hafizu Kawu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) the winner of the February 25 Federal House of Representatives election.
The three-person tribunal panel agreed with the respondent, establishing that Yarima did not go to Hausawa Primary School.
The tribunal determined that Yarima did not meet the educational requirements to run in the Tarauni Federal House of Representatives Election after hearing testimony from witnesses and reviewing evidence presented to it.

As a result, the commission nullified all of the NNPP candidate’s votes and awarded the election to the APC’s Hafizu Kawu, who had finished in second place.
