Idris Dankawu of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was expelled from the party by the National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Kano State because he had forged his West African School Certificate (WASC).
On February 25th, an election was held for the Kumbotso Federal House of Representatives Constituency, and Idris was declared the winner.
All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate Munir Babba Danagudi, who ran against Dankawu, filed a petition claiming that Dankawu forged his secondary school diploma in order to enroll at Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Kaduna.

Justice I.P. Chima, delivering verdict on the petition, said, “Idris Dankawu of the NNPP has forged his WAEC certificate,” therefore nullifying the election.
According to the tribunal, Danagudi is the winner of the election, hence INEC should nullify the certificate of return earlier given to Dankawu.
Having found that Munir Babba Danagudi “satisfies with the provision of the law,” the judge ordered that he should be returned to the Kumbotso Federal House of Representatives.
