The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Kwara State has condemned the alleged humiliation of teachers by the Executive Chairman of the Kwara State Universal Basic Education Board, KWASUBEB, Professor Raheem Adaramaja, during a visit to Government Day Secondary School, Amule.
According to eyewitness accounts, Prof. Adaramaja reportedly ordered teachers — including the school’s Vice Principal — to sweep the school compound in the presence of students, accusing them of failing to maintain a clean environment.
The teachers were said to have explained that the students had just returned from break, leading to temporary littering.

In a statement issued by its State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, the PDP described the incident as a “severe abuse of office” and “public humiliation” of hardworking educators.
“This was not enforcement of discipline but a disgraceful display of arrogance and insensitivity,” the party said, adding that teachers in the state already work under challenging conditions.
The PDP questioned whether the governor endorses such treatment of civil servants, saying, “For a Professor and former teacher to strip educators of their dignity before their students is appalling and morally bankrupt.”
The party called on the Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, to defend its members and demanded a public apology from Prof. Adaramaja. It also urged Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to publicly condemn the act and sanction the SUBEB chairman if he was not acting on government directive.
Reacting to the development, Chairman of the NUT, Ilorin East branch, Comrade Saka Saafi Adanla, expressed solidarity with the affected teachers, describing the incident as “totally unacceptable and uncalled for.”
“We condemn this behaviour in the strongest terms and demand an apology from the SUBEB Chairman,” he stated, assuring teachers that the union leadership is taking up the matter to protect their rights and dignity.
