The Labour Party (LP) has said it is currently not operating any official social media accounts, warning the public against being misled by false information circulated in the party’s name.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the party’s Interim National Chairman.

Asogwa said the leadership of the party had been alerted to the existence of a fake X (formerly Twitter) account operating under the name “Nigeria Labour Party (LP)” with the handle @NewsLp26689.
According to him, investigations revealed that the account was created in January 2026, shortly after a Federal High Court judgment affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman as the Interim National Chairman of the party.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the Labour Party’s only known social media accounts on Facebook and X, which are currently not currently in use, are: Facebook: Labour Party-Nig, with about 12,000 followers, and X: @LabourPartyNG, with approximately 839,000 followers,” Asogwa said.
He explained that following the court judgment affirming Usman’s leadership, the party had formally written to the former leadership to hand over the official social media accounts.
According to him, the party is hopeful that the process will be concluded peacefully and without rancour.
“Once the accounts are fully retrieved or restored, the general public will be duly informed,” he added.
Asogwa said that in the interim, all official communications from the Labour Party are being issued strictly through approved press statements from the Office of the Interim National Chairman.
“Should this mode of communication change, the public will be appropriately notified,” he said.
He therefore urged the public to disregard any information from the purported “Nigeria Labour Party (LP)” account with the handle @NewsLp26689, describing it as unauthorised and a parody account.
Asogwa also expressed the party’s appreciation to the media for what he described as their vigilance, professionalism and unbiased reporting on matters concerning the Labour Party.
