The Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate in the last Bayelsa State election, Udengs Eradiri, has announced his resignation from the party.
His running mate, Commodore Benjamin Nathus (retd), also stepped down from the party alongside him.
Eradiri, who placed third in the November 11 governorship poll, made his decision known in a resignation letter dated December 8, addressed to the state chairman of the party in Yenagoa.

The letter, titled “Letter of Withdrawal as Labour Party Member,” officially marked his departure from the LP.
In his statement, Eradiri explained that his decision was driven by the need to continue his political career on a platform better equipped to deliver the leadership Bayelsa State deserves.
“We are consulting seriously and engaging all stakeholders to know the next political party to join.
Our next party of interest will be such that will enable us to provide service to the people and move Bayelsa forward,” he said.
Reports indicate that several local government chairmen of the Labour Party in Bayelsa also resigned from the party in solidarity with Eradiri and Nathus.
Eradiri’s resignation signals a shift in Bayelsa’s political landscape as he and his team seek a new platform to advance their political ambitions.
