The Labour Party (LP) has appointed Senator Usman Nenadi as its Interim National Chairman and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Interim National Secretary, as part of a new Interim National Working Committee set up to lead the party ahead of its next national convention.
The appointments were made on Friday during the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
According to a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the interim working committee will oversee all party affairs and operations pending the conduct of a full national convention where a new elected National Executive Council will be constituted.

The NEC also approved a comprehensive schedule for the conduct of congresses at all levels, including ward, local government area (LGA), state, and zonal levels, culminating in the Labour Party National Convention.
Furthermore, the National Secretariat has been directed to publish the official guidelines and timelines for these congresses to ensure transparency and fairness across board.
“The NEC has resolved to ensure democratic processes guide all internal elections and has tasked the National Secretariat with ensuring the full publication of clear guidelines and a timeline for congresses and convention,” the statement read.
The formation of an interim committee comes amid efforts by the Labour Party to reposition itself following internal challenges and post-election restructuring, particularly after the 2023 general elections in which the party made significant political gains.
Observers say the move signals the party’s intent to maintain unity and transparency as it prepares for future electoral contests and consolidates its influence nationally.
