The Labour Party has responded to the recent resignation of Dr. Doyin Okupe, the former Campaign Director of its Presidential Campaign Council during the last election.
Dr. Okupe tendered his resignation from the party on Monday, citing ideological differences that arose after the 2023 general elections, according to a report by the media.
In his reaction, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party, Mr. Obiora Ifoh, acknowledged Dr. Okupe’s history as a former spokesman for ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, noting that he has always been aligned with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Labour Party expressed gratitude for Dr. Okupe’s contributions to the party’s efforts in the last election, despite its loss to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at the presidential level.
“We wish him very well. We want to say that he is leaving because he is a Liberal Democrat, while the Labour Party is a Social Democrat. It is also a good thing because he is not expected to be in a territory where his ideological bent will be confused or different.
He has always been a PDP man, so the Labour Party expects that he will return to anywhere he wants to be,” Mr. Ifoh stated in an interview with Daily Trust on Monday.
The Labour Party extended its best wishes to Dr. Okupe in his future political endeavors. While acknowledging that they had seen the resignation letter on social media, the party clarified that they had not received it officially at the time of the statement.
