The National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has declared that the upcoming Anambra State governorship election in November will serve as a test run for the party’s anticipated victory in the 2027 presidential election.
Abure made this known on Sunday in Awka, the Anambra State capital, during a forum organized by the party’s Directorate of Mobilization and Integration (DMI) for aspirants to meet with delegates ahead of the party’s primary election on Saturday.
Represented by the party’s National Women Leader, Mrs. Dudu Manuga, Abure emphasized LP’s nationwide growth and readiness for future elections.

“We want to use Anambra to test what 2027 will be. Labour Party has grown beyond a briefcase party; we are present in all the states of Nigeria and Abuja. We are getting ready not just for Anambra but for 2027,” Manuga said.
She urged party members to remain united after the primaries, stating that no aspirant should bear grudges, as collective effort is needed to secure victory in November.
“After the primary election this Saturday, no one is permitted to be angry. We must unite and work together to win in November. Let us not be weak or divided. If we stand strong, nothing will be impossible for us to achieve,” she added.
Aspirants Speak on Their Plans
Two aspirants, Dr. George Moghalu and Mr. John Nwosu, attended the forum and presented their manifestos to party members.
Moghalu, in his remarks, identified lack of trust in government as Anambra’s biggest challenge.
“People no longer trust the government. Security has collapsed, and thugs are being used to enforce taxes. If the government does the right thing, people will pay taxes voluntarily without being harassed. Tax collection can also be done electronically,” he said.
The Labour Party aims to establish a strong grassroots presence across all polling units in Anambra, seeing the election as a crucial step toward its broader political ambitions in 2027.
