The Labour Party (LP) has cautioned the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) against attempts to remove the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee (NWC), asserting that the union lacks the authority to take such actions.
In a statement signed by the National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, the LP described the stakeholders’ meeting convened by the NLC as an illegal assembly involving disgruntled former members and individuals not recognized as card-carrying members.
The LP accused the NLC’s Political Commission of being a front for Comrade Joe Ajaero, aimed at advancing his political ambitions for 2027.

The group allegedly instructed by Ajaero to create discord within the LP by positioning itself as a platform for dissidents who lost a recent leadership battle in court.
The LP declared the decisions made at the NLC’s stakeholders’ meeting null and void, emphasizing its support for the Abure-led NWC.
It called on Ajaero to prioritize his role as NLC President and address the challenges facing Nigerian workers.
The LP reiterated its commitment to rebuilding the party and urged genuine members to collaborate in achieving this objective.
It also expressed readiness to seek legal recourse if necessary.
The statement was issued in response to the NLC Political Commission’s resolution on Monday, which declared the national convention that re-elected Abure and his NWC members null and void.
The NLC announced plans to form a transition committee to oversee the LP’s affairs pending the election of new officers in three months.
Additionally, the NLC’s resolution emphasized the need for a forensic audit of the LP’s bank accounts, aligning with the demand of its presidential candidate, Peter Obi, following allegations of corruption, forgery, and fraud against the party leadership.
