InfoStride News reported that the Lagos State Government has finalized plans to establish independent access to the Magodo lowland, as announced by the Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Dr. Oluyinka Olumide, on November 25, 2023.
Addressing concerns raised by the Magodo II Residents Association, Olumide emphasized the administration’s commitment to addressing the Magodo situation, stating, “Considering the history and dynamics of the Magodo saga, the Lagos State Government will continue to strive to harmonize all valid interests and ensure that law and order are maintained at all times.”
In urging cooperation from all stakeholders, Olumide sought a collaborative effort to find a lasting solution to the matter, showcasing the responsiveness of the administration led by Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The backdrop of this development stems from recent concerns raised by residents of Magodo Phase 2 in Lagos State regarding unauthorized access to wetlands around the estate. Residents expressed apprehension about land speculators and developers aiming to encroach upon the wetlands, potentially impacting the security and well-being of the estate.
Sheriff Daramola, Chairman of the Magodo Residents Association (MRA), accused the Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning, Oluyinka Olumide, of allegedly supporting the illegal encroachment on the wetland. Daramola highlighted incidents of vehicle vandalization and increased criminal activities resulting from the exposure of the wetland by land speculators and developers over the past six months.
In light of these concerns, Daramola called on Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu to intervene and emphasized that the state government should refrain from any plans to construct link roads to the wetland through the Magodo Phase 2 estate.
The proposed creation of independent access to the Magodo lowland signifies a proactive response from the Lagos State Government, aiming to address the concerns of residents and mitigate potential threats to the estate’s security and environmental integrity. As the government works towards harmonizing various interests, the collaborative effort between stakeholders and the administration showcases a commitment to maintaining law and order in the region.
InfoStride News will continue to monitor and provide updates on this development as the Lagos State Government progresses with its plans for the Magodo lowland.
