Schalke have confirmed that Leroy Sane is in Manchester as he closes in on a move to Manchester City.
Schalke sporting director Christian Heidel said at the weekend that Sane, 20, would travel with the German side to Austria to take part in their preseason training camp, unless a fee with City had been agreed.
The club confirmed on Monday that the Germany international had not joined the squad in Austria and had instead flown to England.
Schalke announced on their Twitter account: “Leroy Sane is currently in Manchester and will not be travelling with Schalke to the training camp.”
Sky Sport in Germany has claimed Sane has already passed his medical.
Sane, who was part of Germany’s Euro 2016 squad, made 42 appearances in all competitions for Schalke last season, scoring nine goals and providing seven assists.
He signed a new contract in July last year that tied him to the Royal Blues until 2019, but he is set to leave after informing the club of his desire to leave this summer.
Heidel told Bild at the weekend: “Leroy once again told me about his intention to leave on Wednesday.”
Bild has said the deal will see City pay an initial €37 million with bonuses potentially taking the deal up to €55m.
City have already signed Ilkay Gundogan from Borussia Dortmund, Nolito from Celta Vigo and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Russian club Ufa.
