The Young Money team just added more respect to their already respected selves.
Both Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter V album and Nicki Minaj’s Queen, dropped in September and August respectively, were certified platinum by the RIAA on Friday.
The Tha Carter V premiered at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 after it dropped, with 480,000 equivalent album sales. Those figures marked the third biggest sales week for an album in all of 2018, while its 433 million on-demand streams it raked in over the seven day stretch gave it the title of the second biggest streaming week ever for an album.
The remarkable album featured Snoop Dogg, Travis Scott, Kendrick Lamar, XXXTentacion and more, as well as production from some of hip-hop’s biggest producers, including Mannie Fresh and Zaytoven.
As for Nicki Minaj, her album debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 — trailing Travis Scott’s Astroworld in its second week, which caused a bit of stir.
With an impressive 185,000 equivalent album units, the album was certified gold by the RIAA within less than 30 days.
