The Labour Party (LP) has announced April 28, 2026, as the date for its presidential primary, while state congresses are scheduled for April 25, 2026.
According to the timetable released by the party, ward congresses will hold on April 23, followed by Local Government Area (LGA) congresses on April 24, and state congresses on April 25.
The schedule was contained in a letter addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), signed by the party’s Interim National Chairman, Nenadi Usman, and made available to journalists on Friday in Abuja.

Usman said the correspondence serves as formal notification to INEC of the approved timetable for the party’s elective ward, LGA and state congresses, as well as its national convention.
She noted that the notification complies with Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), INEC’s Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, and Sections 223(1) and (2) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).
According to her, the earlier postponement of the party’s activities was to allow for wider participation by members and to enable the completion of its ongoing digital membership registration exercise.
She confirmed that the national convention, which will host the presidential primary, is scheduled to hold at the International Conference Centre Umuahia.
Usman also urged INEC to notify its state offices to ensure proper monitoring of the exercises in line with its constitutional responsibilities.
