Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed confidence that the ongoing national convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, will mark a major turning point for the party ahead of future political contests.
Makinde made the declaration on Saturday while delivering his welcome address at the convention, held at the Lekan Salami Sports Complex, Adamasingba, Ibadan.
The governor, who is hosting the event tagged Ibadan 2025, described PDP members as resilient and determined, noting that the party overcame a prolonged internal battle to successfully convene the convention.

“I want to welcome everyone to this convention, the resilient members of the PDP. Let me use this opportunity to welcome you to Ibadan, Oyo State,” he said.
“We have fought a long stretch of battle to get to this point, but here we are. And by the grace of God, this convention will go down as the convention that brought a turn-around to the PDP nationally.”
Makinde also urged party leaders and delegates to take time to enjoy the city of Ibadan, highlighting its cultural heritage and popular local delicacies.
He specifically encouraged visitors to savour amala, a cherished traditional dish associated with the ancient city.
The two-day convention is expected to produce new national officers and set the strategic direction of the party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
