Mercy Aigbe’s estranged husband, Lanre Gentry, is still reportedly behind bars one week after being arraigned in court and remanded in jail over domestic violence charges leveled against him.
The Hotelier was remanded in Kirikiri prisons on Tuesday, May 9, after he was arrested for allegedly assaulting his Nollywood actress wife.
Premium Times reports that although Gentry’s lawyers and friends made efforts to assist him in perfecting his bail conditions in other to secure his release, their efforts were foiled as all the magistrates in Lagos attended a state-wide conference and none of them was available to attend to his bail application as of Monday, May 15.
Tonight marks the seventh night Gentry will be remaining behind bars since his arrest.
However, there are high hopes that he will be able to return home by Tuesday, May 16, 2017.
Gentry was arraigned at an Ogba Magistrate Court 1 sitting at Ogba, Ikeja, on three count charges under the State Criminal law 2011.
He was reportedly granted bail in the sum of N500, 000 as well as the provision of tax verification and two sureties, one of whom must own property in Lagos State, but was remanded in jail for failure to perfect his bail conditions before the end of the day.
According to earlier reports, Aigbe reported the alleged attack to the Lagos State Government through the Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team.
The mother-of-two has since become an advocate for the Lagos State Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Response Team.
Gentry was subsequently slammed with a restraining order that keeps him no less than one mile of Mercy Aigbe’s location at all times.
The couple was married for seven years and share a son together.
