Benni McCarthy has offered an explanation of Jose Mourinho’s decision to stick with Wayne Rooney and Marouane Fellaini, as the two players have been blamed for Manchester United’s poor run of form.
United have lost three back to back matches and the fans are baying for Rooney and Fellaini’s blood, insisting that the pair must be dropped if the team is to turn the corner.
This is the first time in a long while that Mourinho has lost three matches on the trot, with that run of defeats last taking place in 2002 when the manager was still at FC Porto in Portugal.
Speaking on SuperSport 3’s magazine show ‘Monday Night Football’, which is broadcast every Monday at 7pm, McCarthy said that his former club coach Mourinho picks his team based on what happens at training, and not a player’s reputation.
