Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola has come out to say that he believes Manchester United will be back very soon. He recently had his say after hearing Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s plans to knock Manchester City off their perch, and fans have been reacting.
According to him, when City was below MUFC in the EPL, the club was also watching and admiring Sir Alex Ferguson’s success from afar, so he expects the Red Devils to be doing the same right now.
Pep added that hearing Sir Jim speak during his recent interview is proof that United will be back eventually.
His words, “It’s the truth! As [soon] as the teams admit it, they will be closer to us. If they want to deny it for things that are not the reality then it’s their problem. It’s not our problem. When I’ve been below teams I’ve always admired them and thought about what we need to do to be close, to challenge them. If they want to be judged on things they are comfortable with for one day they will not arrive where we are now.
When we were below and United were winning, we were watching them, admiring them. We wanted to learn from them. The period of Sir Alex Ferguson – the generation with Roy Keane, David Beckham, Gary Neville – and all those big, big players, Rio Ferdinand – I’m pretty sure City admired and thought ‘we want to be there’. Now we are there. That’s why, for these type of comments, that I have the feeling that they will be back.”

Alex Ferguson and his assistant Archie Knox arrived from Aberdeen on the day of Atkinson’s dismissal, and guided the club to an 11th-place finish in the league. Despite a second-place finish in 1987–88, the club was back in 11th place the following season. Reportedly on the verge of being dismissed, Ferguson’s job was saved by victory over Crystal Palace in the 1990 FA Cup final.
The following season, Manchester United claimed their first UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup title. That triumph allowed the club to compete in the European Super Cup for the first time, where United beat European Cup holders Red Star Belgrade 1–0 at Old Trafford. The club appeared in two consecutive League Cup finals in 1991 and 1992, beating Nottingham Forest 1–0 in the second to win that competition for the first time as well.
