Multichoice Nigeria, a prominent Pay-TV operator, has recently announced a second price increment for its DStv and GOtv packages in 2023, signaling a substantial increase of at least 19% in subscription fees. This development comes on the heels of a prior price adjustment implemented on May 1, 2023. Multichoice has officially declared that the latest price revision will come into effect on Monday, November 6, 2023.
In the earlier increment, which was unveiled in May, subscribers witnessed an escalation in subscription costs ranging from 16.3% to 18%, depending on the specific bouquet. However, in this latest adjustment, the company is introducing a more substantial increase, with rates surging by 19% to 20% across its bouquet offerings.
**Revised Pricing for DStv Packages:**
According to the communication sent out to its loyal customer base, DStv Premium subscribers will see their monthly subscription fee rise to N29,500, a 20% increase from the previous N24,500 they were accustomed to paying. This change reflects the increasing cost of enjoying premium entertainment.

The Compact+ bouquet has also been subject to an increase, with the new monthly fee being N19,800, up from the previous N16,600, marking a 19% increment. The Compact bouquet, which caters to a significant portion of DStv’s customer base, will now cost N12,500 per month, compared to the previous N10,500, representing a 19% increase. Furthermore, subscribers on the Confam package will now have to allocate N7,400 monthly, a 19% hike from the previous N6,200.
The DStv Yanga bouquet, designed to cater to a broader audience, will now require subscribers to pay N4,200 per month, signaling a 20% increase from the prior N3,500 monthly subscription fee.
**Adjusted GOtv Prices:**
Turning attention to the GOtv offerings, Multichoice has decided to revise the prices across its various packages. Customers on the Supa Plus package will see their subscription cost increase to N12,500, marking a 19% rise from the previous N10,500. The Supa bouquet, which offers a variety of content, will now be priced at N7,600, up from the previous N6,400.
GOtv Max subscribers will also face an increased subscription fee, with the new rate standing at N5,700, up from N4,850. Even the Jolli package, known for its affordability, will now be available for N3,950, compared to the previous N3,300. At the bottom of the GOtv tier, customers on the Jinja package will now be required to pay N2,700 each month, reflecting an increase from the prior N2,250.
**Inflation as a Driving Factor:**
While Multichoice has not issued an official statement regarding the recent price increment, the company cited economic challenges back in May when the first adjustment was introduced. At that time, Multichoice justified the move by referencing the economic difficulties it was facing.
Data from the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) highlighted the escalating inflation rate in Nigeria, which reached 26.72% in September, up from 25.80% in August 2023. Multichoice alluded to these economic challenges, stating, “Due to the various economic challenges impacting our business operations, we have had to review the price of our packages to continue delighting our customers with great entertainment, anytime and anywhere.”
Furthermore, Multichoice acknowledged the prevailing challenging economic climate and expressed its commitment to maintaining the price increase at the lowest feasible level while ensuring the sustainability of its services and the provision of high-quality entertainment to its customers.
As economic factors, including inflation, continue to impact the operating environment for businesses like Multichoice, these price adjustments serve as a strategy to strike a balance between maintaining service quality and meeting their financial requirements. Subscribers, on the other hand, may need to evaluate these changes in their budgets while deciding whether to continue enjoying their favored DStv and GOtv services.
