Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Mutfwang, has confirmed plans to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The confirmation was made by the governor’s Senior Political Adviser, Mr Istifanus Nwansat, during an interview with journalists in Abuja on Monday.
Nwansat disclosed that all outstanding issues hindering the governor’s defection are currently being resolved, stressing that it is only a matter of time before the move is formally announced.

“It is just a matter of time before His Excellency, Governor Caleb Mutfwang, moves to the APC,” Nwansat said.
He explained that the governor’s decision was influenced by what he described as persistent chaos and instability within the PDP, as well as the need to politically align Plateau State with the Federal Government.
According to him, the planned defection would also place the state in sync with the political and governance direction of President Bola Tinubu.
“The impending defection of Mutfwang to the APC would align with President Bola Tinubu’s political and governance trajectory on the Plateau,” he noted.
Nwansat added that the internal crisis rocking the PDP has rendered the party an unreliable platform for political actors seeking to contest elections.
“The crisis in the PDP has made the platform an unrealistic podium for political actors,” he said.
He further stated that a careful assessment of available political options showed that joining the APC posed the least risk and offered the most viable path for the governor.
“That is why the governor is moving into the APC. He believes it is reasonable, as a leader, to align his people with the President,” Nwansat explained.
He added that despite being elected on the PDP platform, the governor acknowledges and appreciates the efforts of President Tinubu in addressing national challenges.
“By our assessment as a state, even though we are members of the PDP, we recognise and appreciate the efforts of Mr President in putting things right,” Nwansat concluded.
