Stakeholders within the automotive industry are intensifying their efforts to facilitate the swift passage of the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) into law. This revelation comes from Joseph Osanipin, the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC), during a recent stakeholders’ engagement focused on ensuring the effective implementation of the NAIDP.
Emphasizing the significance of providing legal backing to the plan, Osanipin highlighted the crucial role of the automobile policy in driving the growth of Nigeria’s automotive sector. He stated, “The auto policy is key to the growth and development of the automotive industry. We will engage major stakeholders for the swift passage of the NAIDP into law, and concrete steps will be discussed for its proper implementation.”
Osanipin further revealed that both operators and potential investors in the auto industry are eagerly anticipating the signing of the auto bill, considering it a catalyst for substantial investments and increased production within Nigeria.

Recognizing the necessity for a well-structured and effectively implemented auto policy, Osanipin expressed the National Automotive Design and Development Council’s readiness for collaboration. He affirmed the council’s commitment to working with key stakeholders, including the Nigerian Automotive Manufacturers Association (NAMA), in advancing the NAIDP project.
Bawo Omagbitse, Chairman of NAMA, echoed this sentiment, stating, “Manufacturers will work closely with NADDC and other relevant authorities for the proper implementation of the auto policy.” He further emphasized that NAMA would develop an internal guidance system to ensure its members adhere to the rules and regulations outlined in the NAIDP document.
In this context, it is evident that stakeholders are not only prioritizing the passage of the NAIDP into law but also recognizing the need for collaborative efforts to effectively implement the auto policy. The engagement of major players, including the NADDC and NAMA, underscores the shared commitment to unlocking the vast potential within Nigeria’s automotive industry.
As these efforts gain momentum, the industry anticipates positive outcomes, including increased investments, enhanced production capabilities, and a conducive regulatory environment. The forthcoming collaboration between stakeholders is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping the trajectory of Nigeria’s automotive sector, ultimately contributing to its growth and development.
