Why is it that poor people find it hard to forgive. Why is it that poor people find it difficult to unite against their common enemies? The last general election witnessed one of the hottest political scenario in the history of Nigeria. Heaven was almost let loose due to the heat and tension that occupied our political space then. Allegations and counter allegations was the order of the day. During this period, nobody could predict the next hour: there was fear of possible war outbreak as a result of plans to cancel the election results and other rumour and counter rumours.
During the election, election participants and contestants threw caution into the air, various weapons were threw at each other, likewise their teeming supporters. Tribes waged war against another tribe. Friends and families of contestants were not spared: friends abuse friends, friends blocked and unfriend friends on facebook list. But most of the mentioned tools were used mostly by we the poor masses.
Funny enough, the quarrel between the rich were temporary as many of them have mend their differences today and move on. On the contrary, the poor guys remained with bitterness of post election till date.
Orji Uzor Kalu house was locked in Lagos. Party secretariat were locked in some States as a form of retaliation. But normalcy seemed to have returned at the top while the bottom continue to boil.
Even Jonathan who at a point referred to Buhari as dead brain and use many unprintable names in describing Buhari has moved on and they have mend their differences. Equally, Jega and Erubebe have settled their differences and move on. But Tunde and Nnamdi keep fighting till date. Abubakar and Monday still keep the cold war of post election on, even outside facebook.
We the poor are not only short sighted but lack courage to think beyond our environment. We the poor are the reason the rich continue to dominate and set us against one another to our detriment.
It is time for the poor to fight with caution and unite to confront our common enemy. We should not be misguided that the rich are not our problem in this country. Assume a society where wealth are evenly distributed. Then assume why that is seemingly impossible in Nigeria, you will understand that the rich are killing us in this country.
Many of our rights are under the feet of rich men in Nigeria. They stand as blockage to our vision and our freedom from abject poverty. This call is not a war call or s call to fight, it is a call for we the poor to remove the barriers before us in Nigeria.
