The Caretaker Chairman of the Nimo Town Development Union (NTDU), Nduka Aguofia, has announced the closure of the community’s town hall to prevent the breakdown of law and order.
Aguofia disclosed that the royal cabinet of Nimo reached the decision following a court ruling that nullified the leadership of the community’s former executive, led by Dan Anakpe.
In a press statement made available to journalists, the caretaker chairman stated that all activities of the town union had been suspended and warned against acts of violence or disobedience.
“The recent court judgment has brought to an end the leadership crisis that has been rocking the NTDU.
We urge all parties involved to respect the judgment and work towards a peaceful resolution,” Aguofia said.
The leadership tussle in Nimo escalated recently, with indigenes lamenting a surge in criminal activities in the area.
This prompted the invitation of soldiers to provide security.
However, the move was met with protests by some residents, raising questions about their opposition.
Following the court’s decision to sack the Anakpe-led executive, some individuals allegedly attempted to incite unrest, prompting the royal cabinet to suspend all town union activities and enforce stricter measures to maintain order.
Aguofia reaffirmed the cabinet’s stance, stating, “Until a higher court overturns the judgment, no one will be allowed to disobey the pronouncements of the royal cabinet.”
He called on all residents to cooperate with the caretaker committee and support efforts to restore peace and stability in Nimo.
“We will not tolerate any act of brigandage or violence in Nimo Town.
Let us work together to build a peaceful and prosperous community, respecting the rule of law and working towards a common goal,” Aguofia concluded.
