The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has debunked reports alleging that its 34 local government chairmen in Katsina State have defected to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the claims as false and misleading.
The party’s rebuttal was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Katsina State NNPP Chairman, Alhaji Armaya’u Abdulkadir, who clarified that none of the party’s current local government chairmen had joined any political coalition or party, including the ADC.
Abdulkadir noted that the party’s attention was drawn to media reports and social media posts claiming that all 34 NNPP LG chairmen in Katsina State had defected to the ADC under the coordination of former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa.

“The attention of the NNPP Katsina chapter has been drawn to some publications made in certain media outlets and circulated on social media, alleging that 34 of our LG chairmen have joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC),” Abdulkadir stated.
He explained that those mentioned in the reports were former NNPP members who had already left the party shortly after the 2023 general elections to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), and as such, any subsequent defection from the APC to ADC does not involve the NNPP.
“It is on record that some of our chairmen left the NNPP for the APC after the 2023 presidential election,” he said.
“Those same individuals are the ones now reportedly defecting to ADC. Therefore, the defection was from APC to ADC — not from the NNPP.”
The NNPP chairman reaffirmed the party’s stability and unity in Katsina State, insisting that its leadership structure across the 34 local government areas remains intact and committed to the party’s ideals and goals.
He urged the public to disregard the misleading reports and assured party supporters that the NNPP remains focused on strengthening its grassroots base and preparing for future elections.
The development comes amid increasing political realignments across Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections, as opposition parties seek to form coalitions to challenge the ruling APC.
